Phillip Edelman served in the US Army from 1935-1938, then joined the Navy in 1942. He worked as a corpsman medic, serving in Africa and the South Pacific.
In January of 1950, the Edelmans moved from New Jersey to Palmer, AK where they built a cabin and began their careers. After working on their goal of seeing the whole state of Alaska, they settled down in Juneau in 1962 and promptly became outstanding members of our community.
The Edelmans were prestigious members of the Juneau Masonic Organization, with Grace serving as Worthy Matron in Juneau chapter #7, Order of Eastern Star. Phillip was also a member of Juneau Gastineau Lodge #21 F&AM, the Juneau Scottish Rite Bodies and the Shrine of North America.
The Edelmans were dedicated servants to the community. Upon their passing, a large sum of their wealth was donated to the Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation to support future medical leaders here in Southeast. Today, the Edelman Scholarship is granted, in their name, to students in our community committed to practicing medicine in Southeast AK.
